In order to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on "strengthening the training of top-notch students in basic disciplines, building a number of bases in displines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, and attracting the best students to participate in basic researches", the Ministry of Education has thoroughly implemented the Top-Notch Student Training Program 2.0 in Basic Disciplines to accelerate the cultivation of top-notch talents in basic disciplines. Based on the 104 bases of Top-Notch Student Training Program 2.0 in Basic Disciplines included in the first batch (2019), the Ministry of Education determined the list of second-batch bases of Top-Notch Student Training Program 2.0 in Basic Disciplines in accordance with relevant work procedures, based on the requirements of relevant documents, applications from universities and review reports from experts in various regions. The Top-Notch Student Training Base of Chemistry of HUST was included in the list.
The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has always attached great importance to the training of top-notch students in basic disciplines. Adhering to the spirit of the school motto of "striving for ethics and innovation", the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering aims at the major strategic deployment of national basic scientific researches, gives full play to the supporting and leading role, and positions the discipline development as "strengthening cross-displine, supporting engineering and medical sciences; pursuing excellence and aiming for the academic frontier". It strives to make the chemistry discipline a high-level and central discipline with typical characteristics that adapts to HUST’s goal of building a world-class university.
According to the Top-Notch Student Training Program 2.0 in Basic Disciplines, the Ministry of Education requires the selected universities to focus on key links such as "selection, training, and evaluation" to accelerate the construction of bases for top-notch student training in basic disciplines. The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering will firmly grasp development opportunities, actively explore talent training models in accordance with the policies of the Ministry of Education, strengthen the evaluation of the effectiveness of education, and strive to cultivate outstanding chemists with patriotism, international perspectives, and innovative thinking.
