Sponsored by Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) and organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), the 6th Symposium on Molecular Chirality in China was successfully held at HUST in Wuhan among Nov. 6-9, 2014. Prof. Yan-Song Zheng, the chairman of the conference from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of HUST, presided over the opening ceremony of the conference. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Xiao-Lin Xie, the dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of HUST, extended a warm welcome and an introduction of the school to the participants.

Total 126 scientists, including more than ten of winners of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, Professor of Thousand Talents Program, Yangtse River Scholars, Scholars of Youth Thousand Talents, and Winners of 100 Talents Program of The Chinese Academy of Sciences, took part in this symposium. The conference received 75 papers and got 15 plenary lectures, 20 keynote lectures and 13 student lectures. During the two days’ conference, experts and scholars gave interesting and excellent lectures. On the academic subjects about the origin and evolvement of homochirality and chiral molecules, enantiomer isolation and purification, chiral analysis and sensing, asymmetric synthesis, application and development of chiral molecules, chiral self-assembly and supramolecular chirality, and so on, open, free and full discussion and communications were delivered among all the participants. In the student session, experts and scholars joined in a hot discussion with young students. By carefully reviewing the student lectures, the expert committee decided that 6 students were awarded the first, the second, or the third prizes.

The Symposium was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NO: 21442403) and Key Laboratory for Large-Format Battery Materials and System of Ministry of Education, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of HUST. This successful symposium will further accelerate the development of molecular chirality in China and encourage young students to obtain more novel and original research works.

The symposium on molecular chirality in China was held once a year from 2008 to 2012. Since 2012, it has been changed to take place once two years, during which researchers are invited to discuss the cutting-edge works and developing trend on molecular chirality.
