7th HUST & SKKU Bilateral Graduate Student Workshop and Annual Academic Conference for Graduate Student Successfully Held

On April 18-19, the 7th HUST & SKKU Bilateral Graduate Student Workshop and Annual Academic Conference for Graduate Student Successfully Held was held in Huazhong University of Science and Technology. During this two-day conference, more than 300 experts, professors and students from the two universities conducted online and offline discussions and exchanges around hot research topics. This conference was jointly held by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST) and the School of Chemical Engineering (SKKU) on the special occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea, the 70th anniversary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the 40th anniversary of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST).

The opening ceremony was held in Wendao Hall of Wutongyu Academic Exchange Center of HUST on April 18. Attendees included Prof. Jianguo Chen, Vice President of HUST, Prof. Jintao Zhu, Dean of Graduate School, Director of Innovation Institute and Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST), Mr. Hongyang Jiang, Secretary of CPC Committee of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST), Ms. Jing Jiang, Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs (HUST), Prof. Jun Young LEE, Provost of Planning and Coordination Division (SKKU), Prof. Nae-Eung LEE, Dean of College of Engineering (SKKU), Prof. Jong Uk BAE, Director of BK Program (SKKU), etc. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Bien Tan, Deputy Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST).

On behalf of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Jianguo Chen expressed warm welcome to all the guests and appraised the close cooperation between Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Sungkyunkwan University over the years. He emphasized that the future world is a world of integration, exchange and cooperation, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology will continue to open its doors and use this conference as a bilateral platform to achieve more diversified exchanges and cooperation with Sungkyunkwan University.

Prof. Jun Young Lee also praised the friendly partnership between HUST and SKKU and expressed his expectations for future cooperation. He also sent his best wishes to the 70th anniversary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the 40th anniversary of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST) and wished this bilateral conference a success. After that, Prof. Nae Eung Lee and Prof. Jong Uk Bae also delivered speeches respectively.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Jintao Zhu reviewed the cooperation and exchange between the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST) and the School of Chemical Engineering (SKKU) over the years in his speech, especially the China-Korea Joint Research Center for Functional Polymer Materials and Devices completed in 2019, which provided a good platform for bilateral academic cooperation and exchange. He also wished this conference a complete success.

In the keynote presentation session, Prof. Jingyu Wang, Prof. Haiyan Peng and Prof. Xiaofan Ji from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Sooyeon Cho, Pro. Joshua A. Jackman, Prof. Sae Byeok Jo and Prof. Wooseok Yang from Sungkyunkwan University, Prof. Young C. Jang from Emory University, Prof. Michikazu Hara from Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Prof. Noritatsu Tsubaki from Toyama University successively introduced their research progress, and interacted with the audience answering their questions.

Student oral presentation and poster presentations were divided to bio, energy and electronic materials sessions. 68 graduate students from HUST and SKKU shared their research progress and academic achievements in their respective research fields. Judges from both universities raised questions and evaluated the presentations based on contents of presentation, layout of slides and other factors.

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Qiang Zhao, Deputy Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST) announced the list of 13 student winners from both universities, and highly praised their wonderful reports and outstanding performance. He also expressed appreciation to all experts, professors and students who participated in this conference, and hoped that the two schools can carry out closer cooperation in academic exchange and research project in the future.


Prof. Jong Uk Bae also expressed his appreciation for the successful holding of this conference, and looked forward to more in-depth exchange and cooperation between the two schools in the future. He also invited professors and students of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (HUST) to participate in the 8th bilateral exchange conference to be held in Seoul, South Korea in 2023.

                           


Founded in 1398, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea is one the BK21 universities in South Korea. Its materials science, chemistry, pathology and toxicology are among the top 50 disciplines in the world. The School of Chemical Engineering of SKKU is a partner unit of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of our university. The HUST & SKKU Bilateral Graduate Student Workshop and Annual Academic Conference for Graduate Student was first held in 2015, and has been alternately held by SKKU and HUST for seven sessions, attracting hundreds of experts, scholars and young students from China, South Korean and other countries each year.
