Fundamental and applied research related to catalysis science were conducted for high efficacy utilizations of resources, and circumventing environmental pollution issues. In the areas of catalytic theory, new materials for homogeneous catalysis and its industrial applications, some characteristic researches have been done, including the followings:
1) Homogeneous Catalysis:
The researches centered on the homogeneous catalytic oxidation, immobilization of homogeneous catalyst, tandem catalysis and so on. Particularly, attention was paid to study the mechanism of a catalytic reaction, and how to manipulate the performance of a catalyst in a specific reaction. Some unique features can be found in the studies about the mechanism of catalytic oxidation, immobilization of homogeneous metal complex catalyst and so on.
2) Heterogeneous Catalysis:
Research interests are preparations of heterogeneous catalytic materials and their applications to solve some important problems in biomass valorization and the chemistry of energy and environment. Attention was paid specifically to design multifunctional solid catalytic materials based on the concept of host guest synergy and oxidation reduction synergy, acid base synergy. Some unique features can be found in the studies about selective oxidation with heterogeneous catalysts and degradation of organic pollutants.
3) Theoretical and Computational Chemistry:
The researches in this area centered on understanding the mechanism of reactions over homogeneous catalyst and enzyme catalysis. Attention was paid specifically to the reaction mechanism over metal or enzyme, artificial photosynthetic system and the mechanism of forming O-O bond in oxidation reaction of water.
