Material Chemistry

The subject is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates chemistry, material science, environmental science, and energy science. Material Chemistry adopts methods of chemistry, material science, and interfacial science to investigate materials corrosion and service failure, as well as materials in application of energy and environment science. This discipline focuses on national strategic requirements, addressing both the fundamental and applicative research. The discipline features in corrosion electrochemistry, energy electrochemistry, and environmental electrochemistry and functional materials. Material Chemistry is one of the major subjects of Hubei Key Laboratory of Material Chemistry and Service Failure. The discipline includes three subjects including corrosion electrochemistry, environmental material chemistry, and energy material chemistry:


1) Corrosion Electrochemistry:

The subject mainly focuses on corrosion mechanism of metal materials, corrosion monitoring technologies, and the development of corrosion inhibitors. The subject particularly pays close attention to mechanism, novel technologies, and application s of corrosion electrochemistry in the field of petroleum exploration, petrochemical industry, marine tunnels and bridges transportation, electrical power generator and oceanographic engineering.


2) Environmental Material Chemistry:

The subject focuses on f our research areas: 1) Microbiological processes and key biotechnologies on the control of environmentally harmful microorganisms, environmental pollution, and rehabilitation of environmental pollution. 2) Electrochemical and photochemical methods and mechanisms of pollutant control engineering, especially paying attentions to technologies of electrochemical remediation and photoelectrochemical oxidation. 3) Solar energy induced photocatalysis of gas and/or liquid pollutants. 4) Fundamental and applicative studies on the reduction, storage and resource utilization of CO2.


3) Energy Material Chemistry:

The subject focuses on fundamental and technological research in new energy electrochemical systems and large scale production of novel materials. Which includes: new organic optoelectronic materials, electrode materials in fuel cell, high energy lithium battery, metal/air battery, and supercapacitor, and materials for electrochemical, photochemical and photoelectrochemical H 2 production and CO 2 reduction, as well as materials in green energy devices.
