This is an engineering technical subject, which allows students to gain basic knowledge, theories, skills as well as engineering technic related experiences of chemistry. Based on the learning, students can handle tasks of applied chemical research, technological development, scientific and technological management. This subject has its strong features on science and technology of membrane separation, fine chemical science, etc.

1) Separation Science and Technology:

Membrane separation process, reaction separation coupling, catalytic reaction engineering, strengthen of heat transferring process on chemical industry. This research direction involves the molecular design and microstructure optimization of membrane materials to improve membrane performances, the investigation of relationships among operation conditions, membrane materials, membrane morphology and the phase separation process to reveal the complicated mechanism in the separation process, as well as the exploitation of a series of novel high-performance membranes for liquid separation and water treatment. It also involves basic applied study on the process of multi element coupled technologies, including the reactive distillation, reactive extraction distillation, reactive distillation with pervaporation. It comprises of strengthening and maintenance of chemical industrial processes, extraction of natural chemical reactive components, simulation of multi scale processes and non-equilibrium levels, dynamic simulation, polymorphism analysis, establishment of control systems.

2) Fine Chemicals and Chemistry:

Focusing on the development and application of synthetic method of fine chemicals. The completed and ongoing projects include "the improvement on synthesis of sucralose", "the development and improvement on synthesis of arbutin, 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid and 2-O-D glucopyranosyl ascorbic acid", "the development of emulsifiers starting from glycerol and carbohydrates" and so on.
