This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. As an important part of the series of celebrations, Pakistan‘s Ambassador to China, HE Mr. Moin ul Haque, led a delegation to visit Wuhan from November 2 to 3. A number of cooperation agreements, including a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the cooperation between our school and Applied Engineering & Emerging Technologies (UAEET), Sialkot, Pakistan to jointly establish a Center of Excellence in Chemical and Materials Engineering.
On November 2, the inauguration ceremony of China-Pakistan Friendship Square was held in Wuhan Yangtze River Beach Park. Chen Jianguo, Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Moin Haque, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China signed a cooperation agreement to jointly build a Chemical and Materials Engineering Center regarding the joint education and research program between HUST and UAEET. The two sides will cooperate in joint research and development, technology transfer, exchanges of students and scientific research personnel, etc. Zhu Jintao, Dean of our school, Qiu Yong, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, and Pakistani student representatives witnessed the signing ceremony.
At the signing ceremony, Tayyaba Iftikhar, the Pakistani student representative of our school, accepted interviews from Hubei Voice, Yangtze River Daily and other media, and talked about her life, study and scientific research in HUST. In the interview, she fondly recalled that when the epidemic was the worst last year, the school and college showed great care for her. Her tutor, Professor Liu Hongfang, often encouraged her through the phone and WeChat, which made her feel the warmth of home.
On November 3, Ambassador Moin Haque and his fellows visited HUST and held talks on China-Pakistan education and scientific research cooperation. Tan Bien, Vice Dean of our school attended as a representative of the school.
At the meeting, Ambassador Moin Haque had a cordial conversation with Pakistani international student representatives, and encouraged them to study hard and make contributions to the development of China and Pakistan in the future.
Tan Bien briefed the attendees on the development of the school, the basis of existing cooperation with Pakistan, and the future cooperation concept of building a chemical and materials engineering center with UAEET.
Moin Hack said that the establishment of the Center of Excellence in Chemical and Materials Engineering between HUST and UAEET will further strengthen the cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of emerging technologies, and will surely become a model of cooperation in the field of education between China and Pakistan.
